Reviews of the Best Turkey Hunting Facemasks
This leafy bucket hat combined with a facemask is perfect for blending in with your surroundings. It features 3D printed leaves like those on QuikCamo’s ghillie suit, designed to break up the profile of your face and keep your prey from detecting you. This design also gives you 360 degrees of shade, keeping the sun off your face and providing a layer of UV protection, helping prevent sunburns.
The fabric is quick-drying, moisture-wicking and breathable, and it also includes a Scent-Blocking Anti-Microbial technology to keep bacteria from growing, preventing any odors that might tip off your prey.
Any problems? First, it’s one-size-fits-all, limiting whom it will fit. If you have an exceptionally large head, it probably won’t. And it also cannot be machine-washed, as the fabric and leaves would come off in the washer, ruining it and making you stand out to your target.
So, if it fits you and you don’t feel the need to wash it, it’s a fantastic 3D facemask that will break up your outline, keep you concealed, and keep the sun off your face.
Pros
- 3D leafy design breaks up the outline
- Breathable, Moisture-wicking
- Scent-Blocking Anti-Microbial coating
- UV Protection
Cons
- One size
- Not Machine-Washable
Verdict: Best Overall
North Mountain Gear makes good hunting equipment, and this Ambush mask is no different. Besides being very affordable, it’s also a high-quality mask that does an excellent job at breaking up your outline and helping you blend into the terrain around you. It has a breathable micro-mesh netting that lets you breathe and stay cool and dry in hot weather, and elastic so it can stretch and conform to your face.
It is one size fits all, and comes in two colors – Green Tan, and Green Brown Tan. They are both meant to work in conjunction with North Mountain Gear’s 3D Leafy Suit; life-like leaves that blend in and move just like the real thing.
The material can be a bit shiny at times, reflecting the sun, which can obviously take away from the camouflage effect. It’s also quite thin and perhaps a bit cheap – the downside of being breathable mesh.
But otherwise, this is a great choice for a breathable, 3D leafy facemask. It’s so inexpensive, you could probably grab two or three and have a selection to choose from.
Pros
- Inexpensive
- Light, breathable, cool mesh
- 3D leaves break up the outline, help you blend in
- Elastic for comfort fit
Cons
- One Size
- Thin material
- Reflective
Another great mask, this one from DecoyPro is a bit different. It doesn’t offer any 3D printed leaves for camouflage effect, but does have a super-breathable, cool, quick-drying mesh fabric that will keep your cool and won’t fog your glasses up. It is one-size fits all.
The DecoyPro Face Mask also boasts an extended neckline, which ensures your entire neck is covered so as not to reveal any skin and can be tucked into your jacket for a smooth look.
Our only complaint is again, that the fabric is a little bit thin. This makes it nice and cool but does make us question its durability.
Honestly, this mask is great. It doesn’t have as many features or the 3d leafiness that helps blend into the terrain and foliage, but is a simple, straightforward mask that will keep you cool and covert.
Pros
- Inexpensive
- Breathable, quick-drying mesh
- Extended Neckline
Cons
- One size is kind of small
- No 3D Leaves to blend in
Another mask from QuickCamo, this one combines a ball cap with a camo facemask to create a versatile covering for both your head and face. The face mask drapes down over your neck, and covers your ears, to provide all-around protection, and the fabric is UV-resistant add a layer of protection from sunburn. And while it doesn’t have any 3D leaves, the Mossy Oak camo is designed to break up your shape and help you blend in.
It uses the same breathable, quick-drying stretchy fabric as QuickCamo’s other masks, combined with Scent Bandit Anti-Microbial technology to ensure it never smells from sweat and wears. Furthermore, it comes in different sizes – unlike most others.
This is a great cap all-around, but we don’t the mask design. It just kind of hangs there, flopping around in front of your face. It would be better if it had some kind of way to stay tight and secure in place, as opposed to just flopping around uselessly. The upside to this, of course, is that it remains super cool.
Other than that, a good choice if you’d like a loose ball cap, as opposed to a tighter, face-hugging mask.
Pros
- Scent-Bandit Anti-Microbial fabric
- UV-resistant
- Breathable, Quick-drying fabric
- Covers neck
Cons
- Not form fitting
This Mossy Oak Spandex Face Mask offers a slim, contoured fit that covers your entire head and hair, and even fits under a cap for a complete camo outfit. It’s lightweight and breathable, keeping you cool year-round. Two camo patterns – Mossy Oak Break Up and Mossy Oak Obsession – give you several options.
And bonus points: it’s so small, you can literally stash it in your pocket when you don’t need it.
One common gripe with this facemask is that it is one-size-fits-all, which means that it is a bit tight and small on larger heads. This can make it uncomfortable for many and much hotter than looser fitting masks.
But with that said, how can you really complain when this mask is this affordable? It’s a versatile, breathable facemask that covers your whole face warm in the winter and helps you stay concealed.
Pros
- Super cheap
- Simple
- Covers entire face, head
- Two camo patterns
Cons
- One-size-fits-all
- Too tight for some people
- Gets hot in summer
How To Choose A Good Facemask for Turkey Hunting
There are a couple things to look for when buying yourself a nice turkey hunting facemask.
Size and Fit
Most facemasks come in a one-size-fits-all, or a one-size-fits-most. While this will work for the majority of people, they won’t literally fit “all” and will often be too small for those of us with large faces – uncomfortably tight, especially. Some masks will come in different sizes you can choose from, however, so if you think this may be a problem for you, be on the lookout!
Fabric and Breathability
Another very important consideration! Wearing a facemask can be uncomfortably hot in the summer and can also cause any shooting glasses or goggles you wear to fog up. Look for a mask made of a breathable, stretchy fabric, preferably moisture-wicking, or even mesh – though mesh is often less durable – to help keep yourself cool and comfortable year-round.
Camo Pattern
While the pattern itself may not matter, decide if you’re looking for simple a printed camo, or a full-on 3D leafy hat and mask – which work well in tandem with ghillie suits. They’re more expensive and a bit bulkier, but leafy masks do a much better job at breaking up your outline and helping you blend into your surroundings.
Final Thoughts
Our favorite Turkey Hunting Facemask is the QuikCamo Mossy Oak Bucket Hat, thanks to its loose, versatile design combining both hat and facemask, 3D camo that effectively breaks up your outline and keeps you concealed in any terrain, and breathable fabric. Add in that Scent Blocker Anti-microbial fabric and UV protection and you have a great mask that will keep you concealed and keep your face cool.
If you’d like to save a few bucks and get something cheaper, we also really like the DecoyPro Camo Face Mask. It doesn’t have the leafy camo of the QuikCamo, but is lightweight, slim mask that keeps your face covered and warm in cool weather and cool in on hot weather, with a loose neck that drapes comfortably and lets air flow.
Grab one for yourself and suit up for your next turkey hunt in camouflaged style.
